A psychological thriller with action and horror elements, developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Game Studios in 2010. The story follows Alan Wake, a writer suffering from creative block, who travels with his wife to the quiet town of Bright Falls for a retreat. However, his vacation quickly turns into a nightmare when his wife disappears, and reality begins to shift into something dark and surreal. Wake finds scattered pages of a manuscript he seemingly wrote but has no memory of. The game's enemies, humans possessed by a mysterious Darkness, can only be weakened by light, making a flashlight one of the protagonist’s key tools. Gameplay combines atmospheric exploration, puzzle-solving, and intense combat sequences. Inspired by the works of Stephen King, Twin Peaks, and classic horror films, Alan Wake was praised for its gripping narrative, immersive atmosphere, and unique mechanics, becoming a cult classic in its genre.
