An American video game developed by Gearbox Software with contributions from TimeGate Studios, Nerve Software, and Demiurge Studios, Aliens: Colonial Marines is a first-person shooter based on the Aliens film universe. Released in 2013, the game was marketed as a canonical sequel to "Aliens", placing players in the role of Colonial Marines investigating the aftermath of the events aboard USS Sulaco and the Hadley’s Hope colony. The gameplay features intense firefights against xenomorphs, battles with Weyland-Yutani mercenaries, cooperative multiplayer, and weapon customization. However, upon release, the game faced heavy criticism for its poor graphics, weak enemy AI, misleading pre-release marketing, and numerous technical issues. Despite post-launch patches attempting to address its flaws, Aliens: Colonial Marines remains one of the most controversial entries in the "Aliens" franchise, though it has gained a niche following among dedicated fans.
