Dark Waters

Mario Correa and Matthew Michael Carnahan wrote this American legal thriller, released in 2019, and Todd Haynes directed it. The film is based on the true story of attorney Robert Bilott (portrayed by Mark Ruffalo), who embarks on a prolonged legal battle against the chemical giant DuPont, accusing them of environmental contamination with toxic substances. Formerly a defender of corporate interests, Bilott takes on the case of farmer Wilbur Tennant (Bill Camp), whose cattle suffered mass deaths due to poisoned water. Through his investigation, Bilott uncovers that DuPont had been concealing information for decades about the dangers of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a chemical used in the production of Teflon, and its detrimental effects on human and animal health. Facing immense opposition, including threats to his career and personal life, Bilott persists in his quest for justice, risking everything to protect public welfare.
