Czech company SCS Software developed and released Euro Truck Simulator in 2008 for Windows and macOS. The game offers players the role of a long-haul truck driver transporting cargo across a scaled-down map of Europe, featuring over 20 cities including London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, and Prague. Players can choose from four truck models based on real European brands but with fictional names due to licensing issues: Majestic (Mercedes-Benz), Runner (Renault), Swift (Scania), and Valiant (Volvo). Each truck is available in three classes (A, B, C) with varying specifications. Gameplay includes realistic vehicle controls such as turn signals, headlights, windshield wipers, cruise control, and more. Players must adhere to traffic laws, manage fuel consumption, and deliver cargo on time, earning money to upgrade their vehicles and expand their business. Despite the lack of licensed brands and a limited selection of trucks, the game received positive reviews for its realism and atmosphere, laying the foundation for future titles in the series, including Euro Truck Simulator 2, released in 2012.
