A multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, set in The Lord of the Rings universe. Unlike most MOBAs, the game was designed specifically for consoles, launching on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with simplified mechanics and controller-friendly controls. Players choose from a roster of iconic characters, including Gandalf, Sauron, Legolas, Gollum, and more, engaging in 5v5 team battles. The game features traditional MOBA elements such as lanes, towers, minions, and abilities, but streamlines upgrades and gear systems for a more fast-paced console experience. Guardians of Middle-earth was praised for its creative use of the setting and successful adaptation of the genre to consoles but was criticized for its lack of content, balance issues, and server instability. In 2013, the game was released on PC, but player numbers declined rapidly. In 2018, online servers were shut down, leaving only local and single-player modes available.
