Hostage

A 2005 American thriller directed by Florent-Emilio Siri. The film follows Jeff Talley (Bruce Willis), a former Los Angeles SWAT hostage negotiator who, after a failed operation resulting in the deaths of hostages, leaves his position and becomes the police chief in the small town of Bristo Camino in Ventura County, California. His tranquil life is disrupted when three teenagers — Dennis Kelly (Jonathan Tucker), his younger brother Kevin (Marshall Allman), and their friend Marshall "Mars" Krupcheck (Ben Foster) — attempt to steal a car and, after failing, break into the home of accountant Walter Smith (Kevin Pollak), taking him and his children, Jennifer (Michelle Horn) and Tommy (Jimmy Bennett), hostage. Talley hands over control of the situation to the county sheriff but soon discovers that Smith has been laundering money for a powerful criminal organization. This organization kidnaps Talley's wife, Jane (Serena Scott Thomas), and daughter, Amanda (Rumer Willis), demanding that he regain control of the situation and ensure the destruction of incriminating data. In the ensuing standoff, Mars reveals himself to be a psychopath, killing the Kelly brothers and threatening the lives of the hostages. Talley is forced to re-enter Smith's house to rescue the children and neutralize Mars, who ultimately sets himself on fire. Following this, Talley confronts the criminal organization to exchange the data disc for his family. Smith, seeking revenge for the kidnapping of his children, kills the leader of the criminals, allowing Talley to eliminate the remaining members and reunite with his family. The film delves into themes of guilt, redemption, and the struggle to protect loved ones under extreme circumstances.
