Les Misérables

A French novel from 1862, one of the greatest works of world literature, follows the story of Jean Valjean, a former convict who seeks redemption and a new life after his release. However, his past haunts him in the form of the relentless Inspector Javert, who refuses to believe in his reformation. Against the backdrop of the turbulent events of early 19th-century France, Valjean takes in the orphaned Cosette, encounters revolutionaries, experiences loss and hardship, yet maintains his dignity and commitment to kindness.
