An American video game developed in 1989 by Dynamix and published by Activision for PC. It is the first entry in the MechWarrior series, based on the BattleTech universe, combining elements of mech simulation and role-playing. The story follows an exiled prince whose family was destroyed, forcing him to become a mercenary in an effort to gather resources and reclaim his throne. Players pilot a mech, engage in combat, complete contracts, and earn credits to purchase new mechs and upgrades. A key feature of the game is the strategic management of a mercenary unit, adding economic and tactical depth. Unlike later entries, it features an open world, allowing free travel between planets. By blending mech simulation with RPG mechanics, MechWarrior became the foundation for the legendary series and set the stage for future BattleTech games.
