An arcade racing game developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts, Need for Speed: Underground was the first entry in the series to focus entirely on street racing culture and deep car customization. Players start from the bottom and work their way to the top of the underground racing scene, competing in various race types, including circuit races, drifts, drag races, and sprints. The game features a diverse selection of licensed cars that can be upgraded with body kits, vinyls, neon lights, and performance enhancements like turbochargers and nitrous oxide. Unlike previous entries in the series, Need for Speed: Underground abandoned exotic supercars in favor of real-world tuners inspired by the street racing scene. The atmosphere is enhanced by a dynamic soundtrack, flashy visual effects, and neon-lit city streets, creating an immersive racing experience. The campaign consists of over 100 races with progressively tougher opponents and increasing difficulty. With its groundbreaking customization options, intense gameplay, and stylish presentation, Need for Speed: Underground had a massive impact on the genre and set the foundation for future titles in the series. It is available on Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and mobile devices.
