Nocturnal Animals

An American neo-noir psychological thriller from 2016, directed by Tom Ford, based on Austin Wright's novel "Tony and Susan". The film follows Susan Morrow (Amy Adams), a Los Angeles art gallery owner, who receives a manuscript of her ex-husband Edward Sheffield's (Jake Gyllenhaal) new novel "Nocturnal Animals". As she reads, Susan finds that the plot, about Tony Hastings (also Jake Gyllenhaal), whose family is attacked on a deserted road, mirrors her own experiences and relationship with Edward. In the novel, Tony encounters criminals Ray Marcus (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Lou (Karl Glusman), and Steve "Turk" Adams (Robert Aramayo), leading to tragic outcomes for his wife Laura (Isla Fisher) and daughter India (Ellie Bamber). Detective Bobby Andes (Michael Shannon) assists Tony in seeking justice. Simultaneously, Susan reflects on her past with Edward, their marriage, and the reasons for their separation, realizing how her choices have impacted their lives. The film explores themes of revenge, regret, and the consequences of decisions, intertwining reality with the fictional world of the novel.
