Pact with the Devil

A 2004 Canadian-British drama film directed by Allan A. Goldstein. The film is a modern adaptation of Oscar Wilde's novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray." The story follows Louis (Ethan Erickson), a young photographer aspiring for a career in the art world. During a photoshoot, he is noticed by influential manager Henry Wooten (Malcolm McDowell), who sees potential in him as a model and offers to help him advance. Under Henry's guidance, Louis adopts the pseudonym Dorian and quickly rises to fame as a successful model, immersing himself in a world of luxury and pleasures. Henry gifts him a portrait capturing his youthful prime and shares the story of Dorian Gray, who made a pact with the devil to have his portrait age instead of him. Fascinated by this idea, Dorian wishes for eternal youth, unaware of the consequences. As he indulges in various vices, his portrait begins to reflect all his sins and moral decay, while Dorian himself remains outwardly unchanged. His relationships with close ones, including his lover Sybil (Amy Sloan) and photographer Bea (Jennifer Nitsch), deteriorate due to his selfish and immoral behavior. Ultimately, Dorian realizes the cost of his pact and attempts to make amends, leading to tragic outcomes. The film explores themes of morality, vanity, and the consequences of unethical behavior, bringing the classic story into a contemporary setting.
