A supernatural horror film produced in the United States in 2005, directed by Andrew Douglas, serves as a remake of the 1979 film of the same name and is based on Jay Anson's novel "The Amityville Horror". The plot narrates the events that took place in the house at 412 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York, where on November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six members of his family, claiming he heard voices compelling him to commit the act. A year after the tragedy, a young couple, George (Ryan Reynolds) and Kathy Lutz (Melissa George), along with Kathy's three children from a previous marriage—Billy (Jesse James), Michael (Jimmy Bennett), and Chelsea (Chloë Grace Moretz)—move into the house, unaware of its dark history. From the very first days in their new home, the family experiences inexplicable and terrifying phenomena: Chelsea claims to have befriended a girl named Jodie, who turns out to be the spirit of one of the murdered DeFeo children; George undergoes strange behavioral changes, becoming irritable and aggressive, especially towards the children; mysterious sounds are heard throughout the house, and objects move on their own. Concerned by these occurrences, Kathy invites a priest, Father Callaway (Philip Baker Hall), to bless the house, but he encounters a powerful evil force and leaves without completing the ritual. In an attempt to understand the reasons behind these events, Kathy discovers that the house previously belonged to a preacher named Jeremiah Ketcham, who in the 17th century conducted brutal rituals on Native Americans, which, according to legend, led to the place being cursed. The situation escalates as George falls completely under the influence of the house's malevolent forces and begins to threaten the family's safety. In the climax, Kathy manages to get the children out of the house and save George, after which the family leaves the cursed place forever. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was commercially successful, grossing approximately $108 million worldwide against a budget of $19 million.
