The Animatrix

A 2003 American-Japanese animated science fiction TV series created under the direction of Andy Jones, Mahiro Maeda, Shinichirō Watanabe, Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Takeshi Koike, Kōji Morimoto, and Peter Chung. The series consists of nine short films that expand the universe of "The Matrix" and deepen the understanding of its mythology. In the episode "Final Flight of the Osiris," the crew of the ship "Osiris" discovers an impending army of machines and attempts to warn the city of Zion by sending a message before their inevitable demise. "The Second Renaissance" in two parts details the rise of the machines, the beginning of the war with humanity, and the creation of the Matrix. "Program" follows the samurai Cis, who engages in a virtual battle, testing her loyalty to the resistance cause. "Beyond" depicts a group of teenagers exploring an anomalous house where the laws of physics are broken due to a glitch in the Matrix. "A Detective Story" follows private detective Ash, hired to find the hacker Trinity, leading him to the realization of the Matrix's existence. Finally, "Matriculated" tells of a group of humans attempting to outsmart the machines by luring them into virtual traps.
