The Bad News Bears

Michael Ritchie directed this American sports comedy of 1976, working from a script by Bill Lancaster. Its central figure is Morris Buttermaker (Walter Matthau) — an alcoholic who cleans pools for a living after a minor league baseball career. At the request of lawyer Bob Whitewood (Ben Piazza), Buttermaker agrees to coach the Bears, a team of misfit children rejected by other Little League teams in Southern California.
