The 2004 Canadian dramatic thriller directed by Lewin Webb and written by Brad Mirman centers on Catholic priest Daniel Clemens (Christian Slater), who serves in the church's public relations department. When his colleague, Father Andrews (Von Flores), is accused of murdering a young homosexual prostitute and refuses to break the seal of confession, Clemens undertakes his own investigation despite opposition from church authorities. During his inquiry, he encounters journalist Madeline Finney (Molly Parker), his former lover before he took his vows. Together, they uncover a web of secrets and corruption that threatens the church's foundations. Cardinal Ledesna (Gordon Pinsent) and Detective Sherman (Roman Podhora) play pivotal roles in the unfolding events. The film delves into themes of faith, morality, and devotion, portraying the protagonist's internal struggle between his duty to the church and his quest for truth. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Market on May 15, 2004, and was subsequently shown at the Montreal Film Festival on August 28, 2004. In most countries, it was released directly to DVD.
