A 2006 American mystery thriller directed by Ron Howard, based on Dan Brown's novel of the same name. The film follows Harvard professor of religious symbology Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), who becomes involved in the investigation of the mysterious murder of Louvre curator Jacques Saunière. Alongside cryptographer Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), the granddaughter of the victim, he follows a series of puzzles left at the crime scene, leading to an ancient secret protected by a secret society. Their journey takes them through the Louvre, the Temple Church in London, and other historical sites, where they confront religious enigmas, conspiracies, and dangers. Other characters include Sir Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen), a historian and Holy Grail expert; Captain Bezu Fache (Jean Reno), a French police officer; and the ascetic monk Silas (Paul Bettany), who acts on behalf of a secret order. The film explores themes of faith, history, and truth, sparking controversy and discussion. The music was composed by Hans Zimmer, whose work was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. The film was a commercial success, grossing over $760 million worldwide, and initiated the Robert Langdon film series.
