A fantasy novel that opens The Chronicles of Narnia series, written by C. S. Lewis. The story follows four children — Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie — who are sent to the countryside during World War II and stay in the house of Professor Kirke. While exploring, Lucy discovers a wardrobe that serves as a portal to the magical land of Narnia, which is trapped in eternal winter by the White Witch (Tilda Swinton in the 2005 film adaptation). Soon, her siblings also enter Narnia, meeting talking animals, fauns, centaurs, and learning about Aslan, the great lion and true ruler of Narnia. The children become part of an ancient prophecy that foretells their role in freeing Narnia from the Witch’s rule. The novel builds toward a climactic battle between the forces of good and evil. It explores themes of sacrifice, faith, and the fight against darkness, drawing heavily from Christian allegory.
