The 2021 British television miniseries, written and directed by Emily Mortimer, is based on Nancy Mitford's 1945 novel of the same name. Set in interwar England, the story follows two cousins: the passionate and impulsive Linda Radlett (Lily James) and her more reserved and sensible cousin Fanny Logan (Emily Beecham). Linda, obsessed with finding true love, embarks on a series of romantic adventures, including marriage to wealthy banker Tony Kroesig (Freddie Fox) and an affair with French aristocrat Fabrice de Sauveterre (Assaad Bouab). Fanny, serving as the narrator, observes Linda's life while confronting her own life choices and societal expectations. The series also features performances by Dominic West (Uncle Matthew), Dolly Wells (Aunt Sadie), Andrew Scott (Lord Merlin), and Emily Mortimer herself as Fanny's mother, known as "The Bolter." Filming took place in Bristol, Bath, and Paris, as well as at the Badminton House estate. The series comprises three episodes and premiered on BBC One on May 9, 2021, later becoming available on Amazon Prime Video. The soundtrack was composed by Clint Mansell, with cinematography by Zac Nicholson. The series received positive reviews from critics for its witty script, vibrant performances, and modern take on the classic tale of love and friendship.
