A 2001 American crime thriller that follows Nick Wells (Robert De Niro), a seasoned safe-cracker planning to retire to a law-abiding life with his girlfriend Diane (Angela Bassett) and manage his own jazz club in Montreal. However, his longtime friend and fence Max (Marlon Brando) presents him with one last job: to steal a royal scepter stored in the ultra-secure basement of the Montreal Customs House. To accomplish this, Nick must collaborate with the young and ambitious thief Jack Teller (Edward Norton), who has infiltrated the Customs House by posing as a mentally challenged janitor. Despite initial reservations, Nick agrees to the deal, setting his own terms and demanding full control over the operation. As they develop the plan, challenges arise: heightened security measures, tense relationships among the team members, and Nick's personal doubts about continuing his criminal activities. During the heist, Nick faces betrayal, but thanks to his foresight and experience, he manages to emerge victorious from the situation. The film is notable for being the only collaboration between De Niro and Brando, as well as Brando's final film role. Director Frank Oz skillfully combines elements of a tense thriller with in-depth character development, crafting a compelling story about betrayal, trust, and professionalism in a high-stakes, risky world.
