007 First Light

An action-adventure game with stealth elements from IO Interactive, based on the Ian Fleming novels and the James Bond films. The game tells an original story about a young Bond: he is twenty-six, does not yet hold double-o status, and the whole plot follows the mission that earns him the number. The story opens in Iceland, where a British special forces unit is ambushed and Bond is the only survivor. Against orders he frees the captured scientists and blows up the mercenary camp, and that act gets him into the renewed 00 programme under John Greenway, who is not thrilled about the newcomer. The team's first assignment ends with an explosion in a Slovak hotel and the deaths of his comrades, and the trail leads to a conspiracy around a quantum supercomputer that can predict terrorist attacks. The game is played in third person and offers two ways through each mission: open combat, with strikes and takedowns, or cunning — talking a guard round, using the surroundings and slipping past unseen. Bond is only allowed to kill when an enemy makes an attempt on his life, and this limit is built into the rules of the game. His main gadget is a watch built in Q's lab, which lets him hack electronics. Patrick Gibson plays Bond and Lennie James plays his mentor Greenway. The game was released on 27 May 2026 for Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Critics received it well and singled out the combat, the writing and Gibson's performance, and by August 2026 it had sold more than four million copies — a record for the studio.
