The second installment in the Splinter Cell stealth-action series, developed by Ubisoft Shanghai and published by Ubisoft in 2004 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Windows, and GameCube. Players once again take on the role of Sam Fisher, an operative of the NSA's secretive "Third Echelon" division, tasked with preventing a bioterrorist threat posed by an Indonesian militant group. The gameplay builds upon the stealth-based mechanics of the original game, requiring players to avoid detection, use shadows, climb pipes, deploy gadgets, and silently eliminate enemies. One of the most significant innovations was the introduction of multiplayer mode, where one team controls mercenaries from a first-person perspective while the other plays as spies using third-person stealth mechanics. This asymmetric multiplayer system was highly praised by critics. The game received positive reviews for its engaging storyline, improved graphics, and gameplay innovations, further solidifying the success of the Splinter Cell franchise.
