The 2007 American psychological horror film, directed by Swedish filmmaker Mikael Håfström, is based on Stephen King's short story of the same name. The movie follows writer Mike Enslin (John Cusack), who specializes in debunking paranormal phenomena. After receiving a postcard warning him not to enter room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel in New York City, the skeptical Mike decides to investigate personally. Despite persistent warnings from hotel manager Gerald Olin (Samuel L. Jackson) about the deadly nature of the room, where 56 people have died over 95 years, Mike insists on staying. Initially, he notices nothing unusual, but soon encounters inexplicable and terrifying events. A clock radio starts a 60-minute countdown, and Mike must endure an hour of horror, facing ghosts from his past, including visions of his deceased daughter Katie (Jasmine Jessica Anthony). As he struggles to survive, he realizes the room is manipulating his mind, making escape nearly impossible. The film delves into themes of skepticism, guilt, and the supernatural, creating a tense atmosphere of psychological horror.
