This American courtroom drama, released in 1992, was directed by Rob Reiner and written by Aaron Sorkin based on his own play. The film follows a young and somewhat arrogant military lawyer, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise), who is assigned to defend two U.S. Marines accused of murdering a fellow Marine at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. Although Kaffee is known for making plea deals to avoid trials, his colleague, Lieutenant Commander Joanne Galloway (Demi Moore), convinces him to take the case to court, suspecting deeper misconduct. As the trial unfolds, it becomes evident that the death was a result of an unofficial punishment known as a "Code Red." Kaffee is soon up against the intimidating and powerful Colonel Nathan Jessup (Jack Nicholson), whose iconic line “You can’t handle the truth!” became a cinematic classic. With support from fellow lawyer Sam Weinberg (Kevin Pollak), Kaffee pushes past institutional barriers and personal doubts to expose the truth, ultimately challenging the chain of command and revealing the cost of blind loyalty. The film explores themes of justice, military ethics, and individual courage within a rigid hierarchy.
