A 2019 American romantic comedy directed by Nahnatchka Khan. The film tells the story of two childhood friends, Sasha Tran (Ali Wong) and Marcus Kim (Randall Park), who grew up next door to each other in San Francisco. Sasha, the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, was often left home alone while her parents worked at their store. Marcus and his Korean-American family took her in, and Marcus's mother, Judy (Susan Park), taught Sasha how to cook. In their teenage years, their friendship evolved into something more after Marcus's mother died, but following an awkward sexual encounter and an argument, they lost touch. Sixteen years later, in 2019, Sasha has become a celebrity chef and is engaged to successful restaurateur Brandon Choi (Daniel Dae Kim). Marcus lives with his widowed father, Harry (James Saito), and plays in a local band that only performs in their neighborhood. After Brandon postpones their wedding, Sasha returns to San Francisco to open a new restaurant and accidentally reunites with Marcus when he and his father are hired to install air conditioning in her temporary home. Despite initial tension, they rekindle their friendship, and Marcus realizes he still has feelings for Sasha. However, Sasha begins dating actor Keanu Reeves (playing himself), leading to an awkward double date and a confrontation between Marcus and Keanu. Following this, Marcus and Sasha grow closer and start a relationship, but their happiness is overshadowed by Sasha's plans to move to New York to open a new restaurant. Marcus refuses to go with her, and they break up. Realizing that his fear of change is holding him back, Marcus decides to turn his life around: he moves out of his father's house and strives for success with his band. Learning that Sasha has been secretly supporting his music career, he travels to New York to win her back. They reunite, and Sasha shows Marcus her new restaurant, named after Judy and featuring her recipes, symbolizing their shared past and new future.
