An American biographical comedy-drama film from 2013, directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by Richard LaGravenese, based on the memoir "Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace" by Scott Thorson and Alex Thorleifson. The film chronicles the last ten years of the life of famed pianist and showman Liberace (Michael Douglas) and his complex relationship with his young lover, Scott Thorson (Matt Damon). In 1977, 18-year-old Scott, working as an animal trainer for films, meets Liberace through producer Bob Black (Scott Bakula). Liberace invites Scott to his lavish Las Vegas home, where a romantic relationship begins. Liberace seeks to control Scott's life, including his appearance, and even attempts to adopt him. As their relationship progresses, Scott struggles with drug addiction, while Liberace grapples with his own secrecy and desire for youth. Their relationship deteriorates, but they reunite for a final conversation before Liberace's death from AIDS in 1987. The film was critically acclaimed for its deep portrayal of complex human relationships and standout performances, particularly by Michael Douglas, who won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor.
