An American first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, serving as a reboot of the Modern Warfare subseries with a darker and more realistic take on contemporary warfare. The single-player campaign follows CIA operatives and British SAS forces as they battle the terrorist organization "Al-Qatala" and the Russian occupation of the fictional country Urzikstan. Players control CIA agent Alex, Captain Price, and Urzikstani resistance fighter Farah Karim. The narrative explores moral dilemmas, and gameplay emphasizes tactical combat and the use of modern military technology. For the first time in the series, cross-play between platforms was introduced, and the traditional season pass was replaced with free content updates. The multiplayer mode features realistic gunplay, large-scale battles, and the new "Ground War" mode supporting up to 64 players. Later, the battle royale mode "Warzone" was added, becoming a standalone free-to-play game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare received critical acclaim for its graphics, sound design, and gripping storyline but sparked controversy over its depiction of the Russian military and certain campaign scenes.
