Christmas in Connecticut

This 1945 American romantic comedy follows the story of Elizabeth Lane (Barbara Stanwyck), a famous food columnist whose readers believe she leads the perfect domestic life on a farm in Connecticut with her husband and baby. In truth, Elizabeth is single, lives in New York City, and can’t cook at all. When her demanding publisher (Sydney Greenstreet) insists on spending Christmas at her country home and bringing along a war hero, Jefferson Jones (Dennis Morgan), Elizabeth is forced to fabricate the idyllic life she pretends to have. She borrows a farmhouse, enlists a chef friend to cook, and arranges for others to play the roles of her family. As the holiday progresses and she gets to know Jefferson, genuine feelings emerge, complicating the charade. The film satirizes the expectations placed on women to maintain perfect homes and domesticity, while celebrating the warmth, humor, and charm of a classic Christmas tale.
