A tactical first-person shooter and a remastered version of the classic Counter-Strike built on the Source engine. CS: Source retained the core mechanics of the original game but introduced improved graphics, physics, and sound design. Players are divided into two teams—terrorists and counter-terrorists—completing map objectives such as planting or defusing the bomb, rescuing hostages, or eliminating opponents. The Source engine brought more realistic lighting, object physics, and enhanced character models, making the game feel more modern at release. Despite some community division between classic CS fans and new players, Counter-Strike: Source gained popularity and was actively supported by modders and the gaming community.
