The 2014 American crime thriller "Cymbeline," also known as "Anarchy," is a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's play of the same name. Directed and written by Michael Almereyda, the film transposes the narrative into a contemporary setting of conflict between corrupt police officers and a biker gang. The central figure, Cymbeline (Ed Harris), the king of the Briton Motorcycle Club, seeks to preserve his lineage after the loss of his sons by arranging a marriage between his daughter Imogen (Dakota Johnson) and someone of royal blood. However, his new queen (Milla Jovovich) plots to kill both Cymbeline and Imogen to place her own son, Cloten (Anton Yelchin), on the throne. Imogen secretly marries the impoverished gang member Posthumus (Penn Badgley), who is subsequently banished. Deceived by Iachimo (Ethan Hawke) into believing Imogen's infidelity, Posthumus orders her death. Disguised as a man named Fidel, Imogen embarks on a journey to find her exiled husband. Pisanio (John Leguizamo), Cymbeline's right-hand man, is instructed to poison Imogen but, upon learning the truth, aids her instead. The plot unfolds through a series of intrigues, betrayals, and disguises, culminating in a dramatic resolution where true intentions are unveiled. The film delves into themes of power, love, betrayal, and identity, blending classical tragedy elements with a modern crime backdrop.
