An American comedy-drama from 1989, directed by Bruce Beresford and written by Alfred Uhry, based on his 1987 play of the same name. The story spans from the late 1940s to the early 1970s in Atlanta, Georgia, and follows the evolving relationship between elderly Jewish widow Daisy Werthan (Jessica Tandy) and her African-American chauffeur Hoke Colburn (Morgan Freeman). After Daisy crashes her car, her son Boolie (Dan Aykroyd) hires Hoke to drive her, which initially meets with her resistance. Over time, however, Daisy and Hoke develop a deep friendship that transcends social and racial barriers. The film explores themes of aging, loneliness, prejudice, and mutual understanding, illustrating how relationships can change and deepen over the years. The film received critical acclaim and was awarded several honors, including the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actress (Jessica Tandy), Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor (Dan Aykroyd).
