Eversmile, New Jersey​

The 1989 Argentine-British comedy-drama directed by Carlos Sorín, co-written with Jorge Goldenberg and Roberto Scheuer, follows Fergus O'Connell (Daniel Day-Lewis), an Irish-American dentist from New Jersey who travels through Patagonia on his motorcycle, offering free dental services to rural communities. His mission is funded by the "Eversmile" foundation, promoting "dental consciousness." While his motorcycle is being repaired, he meets Estela (Mirjana Joković), the mechanic's daughter, and they develop a romantic relationship, despite his being married and her being engaged. Together, they embark on a journey filled with surreal adventures, during which Fergus realizes that his altruism comes with hidden obligations imposed by his sponsors. Rejecting corporate interference, he decides to continue his mission independently. The film explores themes of idealism, personal freedom, and cultural differences, blending elements of romance, comedy, and drama.​
