Everybody's Fine

The 2009 American drama film directed by Kirk Jones is a remake of Giuseppe Tornatore's 1990 Italian film "Everybody's Fine." The story centers on Frank Goode (Robert De Niro), a recently widowed retiree who spent his life working to provide for his four children. Expecting them to visit, he prepares a festive dinner, but each child cancels their visit. Determined to see them, Frank embarks on a journey across the country. In New York, he finds his artist son David absent. In Chicago, his daughter Amy (Kate Beckinsale) greets him with strained politeness, hiding personal issues. In Denver, his son Robert (Sam Rockwell), who claimed to be an orchestra conductor, turns out to be a percussionist and is also unwelcoming. In Las Vegas, his daughter Rosie (Drew Barrymore) presents a lavish lifestyle that is actually a facade. As the journey progresses, Frank realizes that his children were more open with their mother and chose to hide truths from him. The loss of his medication leads to a heart attack, and in the hospital, his children inform him of David's death from a drug overdose. The film concludes with the family overcoming their hardships and gathering around the Christmas table, finding renewed understanding and closeness.
