A 2007 American animated short film directed by Dano Johnson and Jeffrey Travis, this adaptation of Edwin Abbott's 1884 novella "Flatland" is set in a two-dimensional universe inhabited by living geometric figures: squares, triangles, circles, and others. The protagonist, Attorney Square (Martin Sheen), lives in a strict hierarchical society where shape and the number of sides determine social status. One day, he encounters a Sphere (Michael York), a being from the three-dimensional world, who reveals to him the existence of the third dimension. This revelation threatens his worldview and safety, as the government of Flatland, led by the Circles, strives to maintain the status quo and suppress any attempts to disseminate information about other dimensions. The film explores themes of perception of reality, limited thinking, and resistance to change.
