British singer, songwriter, and producer, born on June 25, 1963, in East Finchley, London, began his musical career in 1981 and became one of the most successful pop artists of the 1980s and 1990s. He gained fame as part of the duo Wham!, formed with childhood friend Andrew Ridgeley, releasing hits like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," "Last Christmas," and "Careless Whisper." In 1987, Michael launched his solo career with the album "Faith," which became a global bestseller, selling over 25 million copies and earning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. His subsequent albums, including "Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1" (1990), "Older" (1996), and "Patience" (2004), also achieved commercial success and critical acclaim. Among his most notable songs are "Freedom! '90," "Jesus to a Child," "Fastlove," "Father Figure," and "Praying for Time." Michael sold over 100 million records worldwide and received numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, and four MTV Video Music Awards. In 1998, he publicly came out as gay and became an active advocate for LGBT rights and HIV/AIDS-related charities. His personal life and legal issues, including arrests for lewd behavior and drug-related offenses, were frequently covered by the media. Nevertheless, his musical talent and influence on pop culture remain undeniable. He died on December 25, 2016, from heart failure at the age of 53. In 2023, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
