An American singer, songwriter, producer, and actress, born on March 27, 1969, in Huntington, New York. Possessing a unique five-octave vocal range and mastery of melismatic singing, she began her career in 1988 by signing with Columbia Records after her demo tape reached executive Tommy Mottola. Her self-titled debut album, released in 1990, topped the charts and earned her two Grammy Awards. Throughout the 1990s, she released a series of successful albums, including "Emotions" (1991), "Music Box" (1993), and "Daydream" (1995), the latter featuring the hit "Fantasy," which became the first single by a female artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
