The 2010 American Western superhero film, directed by Jimmy Hayward and written by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, is based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Set in the post-Civil War era, the story follows Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin), a former Confederate soldier turned bounty hunter. After defying orders to destroy a Union hospital, Hex's family is murdered by Colonel Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich), who brands Hex's face and leaves him for dead. Rescued by Native Americans, Hex returns with supernatural abilities, including the power to communicate with the dead. He embarks on a quest to stop Turnbull, who plans to unleash a supernatural weapon to destroy Washington, D.C. Hex is aided by Lilah (Megan Fox), a strong-willed prostitute with a personal connection to him. The film also features Michael Fassbender as Burke, Turnbull's psychopathic henchman, and Will Arnett as Lieutenant Grass. Despite its star-studded cast and visual effects, the film received negative reviews for its weak plot and shallow character development, and it was a box office failure, grossing approximately $10 million against a $47 million budget.
