The 2015 American biographical comedy-drama film directed by David O. Russell portrays the life of Joy Mangano (Jennifer Lawrence), a young woman who overcomes numerous challenges to become a successful entrepreneur. Living with her eccentric family, including her soap opera-obsessed mother Terry (Virginia Madsen) and her father Rudy (Robert De Niro), who frequently changes romantic partners, Joy faces financial hardships while caring for her two children. After accidentally cutting her hand on broken glass, she invents a self-wringing mop, aiming to transform her life. With support from her ex-husband Tony (Édgar Ramírez) and investment from Trudy (Isabella Rossellini), her father's new girlfriend, Joy begins manufacturing and selling her invention. However, the path to success is fraught with betrayal, financial obstacles, and the need to assert her rights. Assisted by Neil Walker (Bradley Cooper), an executive at a home shopping network, Joy finds a way to present her product to a broad audience, marking a turning point in her career. The film received mixed reviews, but Lawrence's performance was highly praised, earning her a Golden Globe for Best Actress and an Academy Award nomination.
