The 2001 British television miniseries, directed by Tom Hooper and written by Deborah Moggach, is based on Nancy Mitford's novels "The Pursuit of Love" (1945) and "Love in a Cold Climate" (1949). Set in the 1930s, the story follows the lives and romantic entanglements of three young aristocratic women: Fanny (Rosamund Pike), Linda (Elisabeth Dermot Walsh), and Polly (Megan Dodds). Fanny, the narrator, observes her cousins as they navigate love, societal expectations, and family pressures. Linda, passionate and impulsive, seeks true love, while the reserved and enigmatic Polly surprises society with her choice of partner. The series also features performances by Alan Bates (Uncle Matthew), Celia Imrie (Aunt Sadie), Sheila Gish (Lady Montdore), John Wood (Lord Montdore), Anthony Andrews (Boy), and John Light (Christian). Comprising three episodes with a total runtime of approximately 151 minutes, the miniseries was a co-production between the BBC and WGBH Boston. It received positive critical acclaim and was nominated for three BAFTA awards, including Best Actor for Alan Bates and accolades for costume and production design.
