The second installment in the Mario Party series, developed by Hudson Soft and published by Nintendo exclusively for the Nintendo 64. In Mario Party 2, up to four players compete on various themed game boards, rolling dice, moving across spaces, and playing mini-games to earn stars. A major new feature is the costume system, where characters change outfits based on the board’s theme, such as pirates, cowboys, or wizards. The game includes six boards, each with unique events and challenges. There are 64 mini-games, many of which have been reworked and improved from the first game, along with new mechanics like items that allow for strategic advantages. Mario Party 2 also introduces a final battle against Bowser, adding a more structured conclusion to the game. The title received high praise for its improved balance, diverse boards, and refined mechanics, though it was still criticized for its reliance on randomness.
