Palworld is a multiplayer survival and crafting game with monster-taming elements, developed by Japanese studio Pocketpair. The game was released in early access on January 19, 2024, for Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms, and became available on PlayStation 5 in September 2024. In Palworld, players explore an open world inhabited by over 100 unique creatures known as "Pals," which can be captured, trained, and utilized for various purposes, including base building, combat, and task execution. The game supports both single-player mode and online co-op with up to 32 players on a single server. A distinctive feature of the game is the ability to arm your "Pals" with firearms, adding a unique twist to the gameplay. Palworld received positive feedback for its gameplay, content variety, and satirical premise, though some critics noted similarities to other games and the use of shock humor. In the first six days post-launch, the game sold 8 million copies and reached over 2 million concurrent players on Steam, making it one of the most popular games on the platform. In October 2024, plans were announced to release a mobile version of the game in collaboration with Krafton, known for PUBG. However, Palworld also faced legal issues: in September 2024, Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, accusing the developers of patent infringement due to similarities between certain game elements and the Pokémon series.
