Past Lives

A 2023 American drama film directed by Celine Song. The story follows Nora (Greta Lee) and Hae Sung (Teo Yoo), childhood friends from South Korea who were separated when Nora’s family emigrated to Canada. Years later, as adults, they reconnect online and maintain a long-distance friendship. However, their emotions and fate become more complicated when Hae Sung visits New York to see Nora, who is now married to Arthur (John Magaro). The film explores themes of love, missed opportunities, and the Korean concept of “inyun,” the idea of destined connections between people. Past Lives received critical acclaim for its delicate storytelling, outstanding performances, and profound emotional depth and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.
