Quake II

A first-person shooter developed by id Software and released in 1997. Despite its title, the game is not a direct sequel to Quake but introduces a new storyline and setting. Set in a distant future, humanity is engaged in a war against the hostile alien race known as the Strogg. The player assumes the role of a marine deployed on the planet Stroggos as part of Operation Overlord, with the mission to eliminate the Strogg leadership and prevent an invasion of Earth. Quake II is known for its fast-paced gameplay, futuristic weapons, atmospheric levels, and robust multiplayer support, which became a benchmark for online shooters. The game had a lasting impact on the FPS genre and laid the groundwork for its sequels.
