Snegir

A 2023 Russian drama directed by Boris Khlebnikov. The film tells the story of the crew of the weathered fishing trawler "Snegir," which sets out into the Barents Sea in search of a rich catch. Two maritime college students, Nikita (Makar Khlebnikov) and Maxim (Oleg Savostyuk), join the seasoned sailors. The young men dreamed of maritime romance but faced harsh realities: severe pitching, piercing wind, and tough working conditions. Maxim gradually adapts, while Nikita becomes the target of ridicule and bullying. As relationships begin to improve, it becomes clear that Nikita does not plan to tie his life to the sea—he enrolled in college for the dormitory. The captain (Anatoly Popov), aiming to secure earnings for the crew, makes the risky decision to cross the border and fish in Norwegian waters, leading to tragic consequences. During trawling, due to Yurik's (Timofey Tribuntsev) negligence, Nikita dies. Soon, the vessel encounters a severe storm and collides with a Norwegian fishing vessel in distress. Despite the danger, the "Snegir" crew decides to rescue the Norwegian fishermen. Upon returning to port, the crew faces an investigation, where they attempt to conceal the true circumstances of Nikita's death.
