An American video game developed by id Software in 1992, Spear of Destiny serves as a prequel to Wolfenstein 3D and continues to build on the first-person shooter genre. The story follows secret agent William "B.J." Blazkowicz, who is tasked with infiltrating a Nazi fortress to retrieve the Spear of Destiny—a legendary artifact with supernatural powers that Hitler plans to use for world domination. The gameplay remains nearly identical to Wolfenstein 3D, featuring maze-like levels filled with enemies, weapons, ammo, and hidden areas, as well as intense boss battles. While it didn’t introduce major technical innovations, Spear of Destiny offered a more structured level progression and refined level design, making it a worthy extension of the original. The game was well received for its tense atmosphere and fast-paced action, and its storyline later became an integral part of the Wolfenstein franchise lore.
