A 1984 American romantic fantasy comedy film directed in the USA by Ron Howard. The story follows Allen Bauer (Tom Hanks), the owner of a wholesale fruit business in New York City, who, as a child, experienced a mysterious incident when he fell overboard and encountered a girl underwater who could breathe beneath the surface. Twenty years later, after a failed relationship, Allen returns to Cape Cod, where he falls into the sea and is rescued by a mysterious woman (Daryl Hannah), who is actually a mermaid. She retrieves his wallet and travels to New York, adopting the name Madison from a street sign. Madison and Allen fall in love, but her true identity remains hidden. Scientist Walter Kornbluth (Eugene Levy) suspects Madison's secret and attempts to expose her. When he succeeds, Madison is captured by government agents for study. Realizing his love for her, Allen teams up with Kornbluth and his brother Freddie (John Candy) to rescue Madison. In the end, Allen chooses to join her in the underwater world, knowing he can never return to land. The film explores themes of love, sacrifice, and acceptance of differences, blending elements of comedy, romance, and fantasy.​
