Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures

The 2001 American documentary film directed by Jan Harlan delves into the life and work of the renowned filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. Harlan, Kubrick's longtime assistant and brother-in-law, crafted a 142-minute film structured into several 15-minute chapters, each detailing the making of one of Kubrick's films, along with two chapters focusing on his childhood and personal life. The documentary features rare archival footage, including family home videos and behind-the-scenes material, as well as clips from Kubrick's first feature-length film, "Fear and Desire." It includes interviews with many of Kubrick's collaborators, such as Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Keir Dullea, Arthur C. Clarke, Malcolm McDowell, Peter Ustinov, Jack Nicholson, György Ligeti, and Matthew Modine, as well as directors inspired by Kubrick's work, including Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Sydney Pollack. The film is narrated by Tom Cruise and features a musical score by composer Jocelyn Pook, who previously collaborated with Kubrick on "Eyes Wide Shut."
