Terms of Endearment​

An American family tragicomedy released in 1983, directed, written, and produced by James L. Brooks, adapted from Larry McMurtry's 1975 novel of the same name. The film spans thirty years of the complex and emotionally charged relationship between widow Aurora Greenway (Shirley MacLaine) and her daughter Emma Greenway-Horton (Debra Winger). Emma entrusts her mother with the care of her children, and Garrett returns to support Aurora during this difficult time. The film received critical acclaim and commercial success, grossing $165 million at the box office against a budget of $8 million. At the 56th Academy Awards, the film received 11 nominations and won 5 awards: Best Picture, Best Director (James L. Brooks), Best Actress (Shirley MacLaine), Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor (Jack Nicholson).​
