The Big One

A 1997 American documentary film directed by Michael Moore, follows Moore during his 47-city book tour across the United States in 1996 to promote "Downsize This!". Throughout his journey, he delves into the nation's economic issues, focusing particularly on the widespread layoffs of workers despite corporations reporting record profits. Moore attempts to engage with CEOs of major companies to discuss their downsizing practices but is often met with refusals. However, he does secure an interview with Phil Knight, CEO of Nike, addressing the company's outsourcing to Indonesia and the alleged use of child labor. The film also critiques President Bill Clinton and other leading candidates in the 1996 presidential election for neglecting economic issues and straying from progressive economic ideals. "The Big One" premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, after which Harvey Weinstein of Miramax acquired distribution rights, pledging to donate 50% of the film's proceeds to organizations in Flint, Michigan, mentioned in the film.
