The Enchanted Tinderbox

The 2024 Russian fantasy film directed by Alexander Voytinsky is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Tinderbox." Set in a fictional ancient Russian kingdom, the benevolent Tsar Berendey and his wife Nastasya rule alongside loyal soldier Foma and their blind daughter Dasha, who trains in martial arts. After the Tsar's shipwreck, orchestrated by swindlers Likhodey and Balalay, Likhodey obtains a spellbook and uses it to seize the throne, enchanting Tsarina Nastasya and transforming Foma into a raven. Dasha is imprisoned within a magical tinderbox. Three years later, Foma's younger brother, Ivan—a con artist—accidentally discovers the tinderbox and frees Dasha. Together, they aim to overthrow Likhodey and restore rightful rule, facing magical trials and uncovering their true strengths.
