The Hurricane​

The 1999 American biographical sports drama directed by Norman Jewison, with a screenplay by Armyan Bernstein and Dan Gordon, is based on Rubin Carter's autobiography "The Sixteenth Round" and the book "Lazarus and the Hurricane" by Sam Chaiton and Terry Swinton. The film portrays the life of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter (Denzel Washington), a promising middleweight boxer whose career was derailed when he was wrongfully convicted of a triple murder in a Paterson, New Jersey bar in 1966. Despite a lack of substantial evidence, Carter was sentenced to three life terms and spent nearly two decades in prison. His case gains attention when a Brooklyn teenager, Lesra Martin (Vicellous Reon Shannon), reads Carter's book and, with the support of his Canadian guardians Lisa Peters (Deborah Kara Unger) and Sam Chaiton (Liev Schreiber), initiates a campaign to prove Carter's innocence. Together, they navigate legal challenges and systemic biases to seek justice. The film features performances by John Hannah, Dan Hedaya, Harris Yulin, and Rod Steiger. Roger Deakins' cinematography and Christopher Young's score enhance the film's emotional impact.
